45 years ago, the Class of ’72 of St. Joseph’s A-C School graduated under the care of the late Rev. Bro. Paul Sun. During Feb 18 – 25, 2017, almost 40 of them gathered in Hong Kong for a reunion program, many coming from overseas, including USA, Canada, Australia and the UK.

An organizing committee was formed over a year ago to make detailed plans. The program included a visit to the new school campus as well as the old school site, a private luxury boat cruise and sumptuous seafood dinner in Lei Yu Mun, a VIP visit to the famed Ocean Park Hong Kong and dinner in the Park’s signature restaurant The Neptune, hiking and yum cha, an evening of songs and dance at Bar City, and a gala dinner on the final day with the usual pre-dinner mahjong games. The organizers were most delighted with the outstanding response from their classmates, many bringing along their partners to share the experience and fun.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the reunion program was the gala dinner party on Saturday Feb 25, with over 70 people attending. The Class of ’72 appreciated deeply the presence of representatives from the Josephian Association, Principal Poon of SJACS and many former teachers, especially Principal Matthew Chan, Principal Kenneth Chan and Mrs. Chan.

Around 6.30 pm, the dinner party kicked off with fine wines sponsored by Andrew Li. After everyone was seated, there was a roll call, like what used to be done daily before class 45 years ago. First was Andrew to call out the names of his 5B classmates present. This was followed by Peter Poon for 5A, Daniel Li for 5C, and Fred Wu for 5D. Invited to address the gathering were Russ Ko, President of the Josephian Association, and Roger Lam, Chair of the Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Education Foundation. Though many classmates were absent with apologies, some had sent along warm greetings. Messages also came from former teachers in Toronto, Canada such as Ms. Teresa Ho and Mr. Raphael Ng, whose message had been circulated beforehand and was read out during the party.

There were nice table prizes for everyone, as well as a lucky draw, featuring 19 prizes sponsored by Patrick Wong, Simon Leung, Daniel Li, Matthias Li, and Andrew Li. It was tremendous fun for everybody; none went away empty-handed.

The Committee had allocated part of the budget to donate to the Foundation. Tee-shirts with the Bro. Paul Foundation logo were also offered for sale to raise more funds. In total, the Class of ’72 managed to donate over $30,000 to the Foundation - in great Josephian family spirit, indeed.

All in all, the reunion week was a great success. Many old classmates were reunited once again, in some cases, not since they left school 45 years ago. It was a time to reminisce, to relish anecdotes, to catch up…and perhaps, most of all, to share the rapturous joy of reunion! And so, let’s conclude by wishing the Class of ’72 good health and look forward to the next reunion.
